The Grass is Greener on the Other Side

I think New York gave me the perspective which i have been thirsty for for this entire year. The grass is definitely greener on the other side. I don't pretend to be ignorant of the fact that foreign places can only retain their sheen for so long before they are dim just like our last home was. How long can New York be this fantastic, gleaming playground to me before it's simply another old city? Truth of the matter is, i have to think about this question seriously because i want to move there to live and work. I also know that that's a monumental goal that will require years of preparation and waiting around. But I am prepared for the work because I feel like I've outgrown Melbourne. I'm privy to making grandiose statements like these, so i don't blame you if you roll your eyes.

I know that i mayn't be successful. I don't even know where to begin such a big move like that. I know people who've done it and i've made it clear to them that even if they aren't so happy with their life situations at the moment, they've sort of still 'made it' in a way. Sheridan and Kiara, i'm looking at you. People always want to get as far away from their roots as possible. To 'make it' is to be far away from home with new people, new opportunities and new horizons that are continuously expanding. My parents have 'made it' out of China. But me? I have yet to make much out of my own life.

So we acclimate to whatever environment we are in. But no matter how quotidian New York will become to me if i Live there, there are things about it which can never be found where I am now. It's a bigger city than Melbourne, it's more populated, the retail inventory there is immense and to me, it's the center of the world. So even if one day i do find myself living there, jaded, bogged down and working a thankless job. I gotta stop and look at 30 Rockefeller or NBC studios and think, " Holy fuck, Conan O'brien filmed there".
