I haven't been here because i've been in the real world for the past week or so. The real world, can be a scary place. The reality is, is that you need to prove to everybody that you are totally fierce, in control and willing to sweat blood to get to where you want to get. And once again, No i'm not fired if that's what this sounds like. I've just go to some pretty real places in my mind about the real world.
The real world is corporate. It's women and men on trains reading papers, drinking coffee and giving you a rude look for disturbing their peace before work starts time. The real world is making your boss look great by doing a good job, the real world is having to deal with people who gets you the wrong way but not caring because you want money. The real world is being able to buy everyone drinks and dinner because you are that financially secure. The real world is seeing all the money you've made and realising you can upgrade to a nicer apartment. The real world is realising you can't make your rent and that you're going to have to let your landlord overdraw your bank account. The real world is catching the last train at night from a late shift at work.
The real world is grey suits, corporate wear and seeing for the first time ever how marginal the arty group of friends you're a part of is. The real world is realizing that independent companies make no money and can't give you an income. The real world is selling out and feeling for the first time you don't care because you want to eat at nice restaurants and wear Acne. The real world is when you start to change as a person and want to work all the time because it makes you feel powerful and in control. The real world is where you no longer have that picky attitude so synonymous with being young and putting your hand up for everything because opportunities seldom come in life at all. The real world is where you finally see how annoying and full of shit young people are on the train and you want to tell them to get a real job and to pay taxes like you do. The real world is when your friend goes shopping on centerlink and you realise you paid for that shopping trip.
Ps. I'm going to be a regular online contributor to Lip Magazine but more on that in the next entry. I've really just been applying for writer/editor/copy writer jobs everyday. That's just life now. Trying to find a morsel of security and stability.
