I threw this together this morning. It's a basic tomato and spinach omelette |
People who know me know that i've always hated to cook. I just can't be bothered with the chopping and the rinsing and the cleaning and the timing. It was enough to get me angry. I never thought that cooking would become such a thing for me. Given that i'm kind of early into my ' phase ' ( hopefully not ), everything i've been making has been basic. But i want to get into more complicated and impressive recipes as i get better and accrue more tools too.
I think a big part of why i hated cooking so much was how impatient i was. I'm someone who wants what they want immediately and when it comes to food, it's no different. When i'm hungry, the last thing i want to do is to get out my pots and pans and to 'prepare' something to eat. I want something within 5 minutes. But good things take time and nothing prepared in five minutes is really going to be that good for you or exciting to eat. Cooking is fast becoming my 'shopping' replacement. My fix of instant gratification. Although cooking isn't as instant as shopping, it's just as rewarding. It's rewarding in a humbler way which is something I'm more about these days. I find that the process of preparing food is really therapeutic and it seems the longer you take, the more careful you are and the more careful you are, the better the food seems to come out. So far, my favorite thing to cook has been soups. One, they are easy and two, they are always tasty.
The best soup i've made so far i didn't snap a photo of but it was a roasted tomato soup. I get all my recipes from taste.com.au. I've found that everything they have is always easy and really straight forward to make. I'm not at the expert level yet! Everybody says that baking is fun and easy but I think baking is actually really hard. I find I'm really bad with consistency so whatever i bake either comes out as being too thick or too thin. It's never just right.
